High-Performance FAST Cameras

High-Performance FAST Cameras

The Telops FAST series features scientific infrared imaging systems that are expertly engineered and optimized to deliver the highest image acquisition speed capabilities on the commercial market. Available in a wide variety of image formats and spectral band configurations, these high-performance systems can be flexibly configured to address a broad range of measurement challenges.

With the combination of high sensitivity performance, impressive temporal resolution, and Telops proprietary Real-Time Temperature Calibration (RTTC) and Automatic Exposure Control (AEC) capabilities, the FAST series is well suited for the analysis of dynamic events commonly found in ballistic impact monitoring, combustion studies, or experimental mechanics measurements.

Key Benefits

High-Speed Imaging
The FAST series include the fastest thermal cameras available on the market, up to 3 100 fps in full frame mode and 120 000 fps in subwindow.
Permanent calibration
The FAST cameras provide radiometrically calibrated measurements for all operating conditions from power-on.
Automatic exposure control
The camera self-adjusts exposure time depending on the scene, for best imaging.
4-position filter wheel
The FAST series feature a convenient 4-position filter wheel for ease of use in changing measurement scenarios.
Water and dust proof
Certified IP67 sealed enclosure, ideal for field measurements.

Examples of applications

Railway Inspection
Joowon Industrial in Korea uses multiple FAST cameras to observe hot spots on rails in order to prevent accidents.
Tensile testing
In this classic experimental mechanics test, a metallic sample is pulled from both ends to study its strength, elasticity and breaking point.
Combustion analysis
Here you can see the injection process in a Diesel-fuel engine supplied with a premixed methane-air charge. The piston’s crown is replaced by a sapphire window in order to carry out imaging of the combustion bowl. Images courtesy of Istituto Motori (CNR), Italy.
Cell Phone Button
This crisp image of an iPhone's print ID button was taken with a FAST HD camera equipped with a G1x lens.
Oil furnace inspection
Here a FAST camera was used to inspect defects in an oil furnace. Images courtesy of Torngats.
Ballistics impact
Here you can see the effects of a projectile hitting a composite material.
Hopkinson-Bar
In this other classic experimental mechanics test, a sample is compressed using a Split-Hopkinson Bar to study its resistance and behavior when subjected to a shock. In collaboration with the Structural Impact Laboratory (SIMLab) of the NTNU.
Heat transfer
In this video, a high-speed heat transfer measurement experiment is carried out between a falling droplet and a metallic surface stabilized at 0 °C. A FAST M3k was used with a G1x microscope lens.
